Abstract

In the generation phenomenon, the members of Generation Y (Gen Y) are drawing attention as a generation who are impatient, individualist and have a big ego, high self-confident and a big passion for speed: they want everything instantly and consume them quickly, they consume even consuming. This generation who lives fast the moment and always wants more are easily accessible to everything thanks to the internet, widespread retail chains, etc. Essentially there is a pursuit of an identity and happiness behind this fast life and consumerism. The members of Gen Y who were born in the middle of an age that the instrumental rationality of capitalism makes almost everything marketable are trying to resist by consuming more to this period which loses rapidly the values meaning personal lives. Generation Y is not hopeful for the future and just a result of the curiosity and hope, their face are turned to nostalgia which is probably not experienced by themselves. In this case, nostalgia plays mortar mission at the point of undertaking the task to reunite personal and social lives which are smashed by capitalism. Essentially, while nostalgic tendencies are quite acceptable for Baby-boomers and Gen Xs, they are surprising for Gen Y because of their young age. Gen Zs are not dealt with from this perspective based on the assumption that Gen Zs make consumption decisions with their parents by the reason of age.
The members of Gen Y who are important representatives of postmodern consumers synthesizing the present with the past are seeking happiness in the past and retro items are a new purpose and hope for the members of this generation. This quest which is also recognized by marketers has been also worked up with retro marketing activities. Indeed, this study is intended to reveal the relationship between the pursuit of happiness of Gen Y's and their increasing retro trends. At the scope of work, literature review will be made and a situation analysis will be presented in the light of information obtained.
